There’s chemistry between the lead actors and a story most teens can relate to

ONE OF the things that works well in the Mignon “Mossie” van Wyk film is the two leads share believable chemistry.
In the building up to the release of the teen drama, the two have been attending mall premieres, talking on radio and to journalists, punting the film.
“Looks like angry eyebrows,” Tanika Fourie says as Deànré Reiners spells his name.
“So, I don’t smoke, just putting it out there,” he says, looking her in the face.
“Oh, funny, funny,” she rolls her eyes.
“Because she does,” he stops himself from sticking out his tongue at her.
So it goes the whole conversation.
Fourie auditioned for her role as Mossie, while Reiners had worked with director Darrell Roodt before.
“He sent me the script and asked if I’d be interested and I told him ‘definitely’,” he said.
“There’s some-thing about this character Adriaan that is different from the usual teenager. I’ve played a few character parts – in Seun I was a quadriplegic and in Verskietende Ster I’m this musical prodigy and a total nerd.
“I thought it would be fun to play a high-school kid, having dreams, being in love. That grabbed me.”
While 16-year-old Fourie doesn’t want to stereotype the guys of her own age, she has got to know several who are just like the Adriaan character.
“They’re focused and not into partying. They respect girls at school. They’d be your guy friend. So playing towards that is very realistic. And the idea of girls who are into older guys, trying to have relationships with them even when they know the guys are not good for them… that is real too,” she said.
Once Fourie knew she had the role she contacted Reiners on Facebook so by the time they met on set, they had already established a virtual friendship.
