Every now and then a celebrity posts online about how they are unhappy with this service or that product. If you don’t know any better, you might empathise with them, yet if you were to take a closer look at the situation, you’d likely see that they are actually just behaving like a spoilt child. That’s what they usually tag as #nicelifeproblems or #firstworldproblems – alluding to the fact that the issue is not really that serious.
We say this because if Kanye West’s big problem is that the paparazzi are always in his face, then why not walk discreetly on the pavement? We know of an army of B-grade celebrities who’d give anything to have photographers follow them around.
Good lives are what you will see on Vuzu’s Secret Lives of the Super Rich. As the title suggests, we peek into the lives of people who make so much money that collectively they almost own half of the planet. The only word that’s misleading in the title is “secret” because once we know, the word is out.
If you watched the news last week you’d have picked up that one of basketball’s finest players, Kobe Bryant, retired after two decades in the game. While there was talk concerning what he’d done for the sport, more comparisons with Michael Jordan, one of the articles was about just how much he made off the game. In total, Bryant is estimated to have made about $700 million (about R10 billion), half of it as a salary and the rest from endorsements. So now that he’s retired, how do you think he’s going to spend that money?
His predecessor, Jordan, did so well with his Air Jordan sportswear he was recently said to have amassed the billion-dollar mark. It would be interesting to see how he lives.
For years we heard about John Travolta’s love of flying and he even has an airport at his house where he parks his plane. It has only been seen in magazines so it would be interesting to see some live footage.
Other rich people we are curious to check out are Mark Zuckerberg, the guy behind Facebook, Oprah Winfrey and fellow talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres.
But whomever we end up with, it will be worth escaping into the lives of the people with all the wealth.
Secret Lives of the Super Rich airs every Wednesday at 9.30pm on Vuzu TV (DStv Channel 116).
