#CTIJF2016: Get in tune with road closures

Motorists face several road closures this evening when the Cape Town International Jazz festival’s free concert starts.

MOTORISTS in the city centre face several road closures early this evening when the free concert of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival kicks off, in the run-up to the main events starting on Friday. The free concert takes place at Greenmarket Square. The road closures, which started on Tuesday for the free concert, will end on Thursday at 6pm.

Burg Street northbound between Church and Longmarket Street will be closed overnight, as will Longmarket Street eastbound between Adderley and Long Street. Wale Street eastbound at Burg Street was closed at noon today and will remain closed until tomorrow at 6pm. Burg Street northbound will also be closed from Hout Street, until 6pm tomorrow.

The road closures starting on Friday for the main events at Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) will end on Sunday. For the main event starting on Friday, in Lower Long Street there’ll be one left-turning lane northbound between Walter Sisulu and Wharf Street from 9am until 4pm on Sunday.

Today along Walter Sisulu, only the taxi lane will be open westbound between Lower Long and Cullinan Street. Convention Square in Lower Long Street southbound between Pedestrian Crossing and Customs House was closed at 9am and will remain closed until 4pm on Sunday.

There’ll be another full closure at Convention Square northbound between Pedestrian Crossing and Heerengracht Street from tomorrow at 8pm to 4pm on Sunday.

Walter Sisulu eastbound between Lower Long and Heerengracht will be closed, as will the northbound stretch between Wharf Street and Walter Sisulu from 9am on Friday until 4pm on Sunday.

From 4pm tomorrow in Lower Long, all the lanes between Wharf Street and Walter Sisulu, and Heerengracht southbound between Walter Sisulu and Hertzog Boulevard, will be closed from 6pm until Sunday at 4pm.

Walter Sisulu eastbound between Buitengracht and Heerengracht, and westbound between Heerengracht and Lower Long Street will be closed from Friday at 9am until Sunday 4pm.
