A look at life Behind The Music

OnCe I went into a YouTube wormhole and viewed videos of international artists doing interviews they were really not interested in. The one person who kept popping up was rapper, Lil’ Wayne.

In most of the interviews the Lollipop hit- maker did not hide the fact that he was bored. His demeanour sold him out. If you could not see that, then you could pick up what he was really thinking through his rather cold responses. Then there were times that he simply walked out of interviews because he was fed up.

When the rapper came to South Africa the media were disappointed that he did not do any interviews. Yet, after seeing how other journalists around the world had battled, perhaps it was a good thing. Seriously, who would like to be shut down by the great Dwayne Carter?

This kind of behaviour is what you can expect to see in Behind the Music, a show on ED and GO TV. We all have perceptions of what musicians’ lives are like thanks to what we see in the media, but we do not really know much about them beyond that. Behind the Music attempts to set the record straight.

Still on Lil’ Wayne, there is a side to him most people do not know and they will be exposed to it on the show. He’s a father and those close to him claim that he puts his family first. With all the gritty stuff he has to say in his music, it will be intriguing to see him melt from hard-core rapper to parent.

Another person of interest on Behind the Music is Lady Gaga who is one of the most enigmatic people in showbiz. The Born this Way singer has been a controversial artist from day one. From wearing meat to an awards event to making some of the most daring music videos, there is no limit to what Lady Gaga can do. In fact, whenever she is invited to perform or make an appearance, rest assured that she will do something different to everyone else. But wouldn’t it be interesting to see her other side? A side without all the dramatic fashion statements and outrageous behaviour. Behind the Music will give you that.

There is a host of other celebrities featured on this show whose lives behind the music we know little about, yet they gave access to this show.

Behind the Music airs every Friday on ED (DStv channel 190) at 7.55pm.
