Sony Music has now opened up about the legal battlebetween the company, Dr. Luke and Kesha.
|||Sony Music's lawyer Scott A. Edelman has now opened up about the ongoing legal drama between the company, Dr. Luke and Kesha.
With fans and supporters of Kesha planning a protest and rally outside Sony Music headquarters in New York today to protest her defeat in the courtroom last week, Edelman has told the New York Times that the company aren't in a position "to terminate" Kesha's contract, which she signed a decade ago with Dr. Luke.
He explained: "Sony is doing everything it can to support the artist in these circumstances, but is legally unable to terminate the contract to which it is not a party."
Signed in 2005, the contract is between Kesha and Kasz Money, Dr. Luke's music company. In 2009, Luke then brought the agreement to Sony Music subsidiary RCA/Jive.
Now, that agreement belongs to Kemosabe Records, which is a Sony Music subsidiary set up by Dr. Luke.
Kesha's hoping for a release from the contract after claiming that Luke sexually, emotionally and physically abused her throughout her time working with him. Under the terms of the contract, Kesha insists that she's now restricted from working with anybody other than Luke.
Luke's denied all allegations of abuse and insists that the singer is free to work with whoever she wants to under the terms of his contract.
