NEW YORK - Taylor Swift is giving some financial assistance to fellow pop star Kesha as she battles to get out of a contract with Dr. Luke, whom she has accused of sexually assaulting her.

A representative for Swift confirmed on Sunday night that Swift had donated $250 000 (about R3.82m) to Kesha in what she called a “show of support” to help her in her legal battle with Dr. Luke, the megahit producer.

The donation has been confirmed by Kesha's mother Pebe Sebert, who tweeted: "Taylor Swift has just generously donated $250,000 to Kesha, as a show of support during this difficult time.AMAZING!!"

In 2014 Sebert also sued Dr. Luke, claiming that she suffered emotional distress and post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of the producer's alleged abuse of her daughter. The court documents largely restated claims made by Kesha in her lawsuit, according to TMZ.com.

On Friday, Kesha sobbed in court as a judge denied her bid to get out of her contract with Dr. Luke, who has worked with artists ranging from Britney Spears to Katy Perry to Nicki Minaj.

Dr. Luke, who counter-sued the singer in 2014, denied Kesha's allegations, accusing the ‘Tik Tok’ singer of fabricating the charges to get out of the contract.

While the court decision is not the final judgment in the case, the decision has led to an outpouring of support for Kesha on social media from other celebrities, including Kelly Clarkson, who once worked with Dr. Luke.

A rep for Kesha did not immediately return a message seeking comment on Swift's donation.

Kelly Clarkson took to Twitter to express her view:

Singer Demi Lovato has urged women to stand up for themselves following thecourt ruling.

Taking to her Twitter page on Sunday, she wrote: "Frustrating to see women come forward with their past only to be shot down, not believed & disrespected for their bravery in taking action ... Happens way too often. I'm ready for women to be taken just as seriously as men (sic)"

Demi also invited people to respond to her argument, in particular, "self-proclaimed feminists" and added that she can't understand why people would think someone would come forward if they weren't telling the truth.

She added to her Twitter: Someone tell me why anyone would ever feel brave enough to come forward if they are most likely to be ignored or called a liar? ... I'm also ready for self-proclaimed feminists to start speaking out or taking action for women's rights (sic)."

Women of the music industry certainly showed their support for the pop star including Lady Gaga and Lorde.

Hours after the news broke, Gaga jumped to the singer's defence:

And 'Royals' singer Lorde was also keen to show her support for the 28-year-old beauty at this "deeply unfair time".

She wrote: "Standing with @KeshaRose through this traumatic, deeply unfair time. Send good vibes her way everyone."

Pop beauty Ariana Grande, 22, also reached out to the star, while British singer Lily Allen and Australian rapper Iggy Azalea passed on their condolences.

Lily wrote: "My thoughts are with @KeshaRose today. I'm sorry you've had to endure this experience."

And Iggy added: "I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but I believe Kesha deserves the ability to move forward, create and earn a living (sic)."

Kesha took to Twitter to thank fans and her fellow celebs for their kind words. She wrote: "thank you for all the support in my legal case animals. i love all of you. it's meant the world to me. xoxo (sic)"
