Host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” Trevor Noah was set to host the sixth MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) in Johannesburg on the 22 October 2016, but due to a severe upper respiratory and ear infection will no longer be able to host the show.
Noah tweeted out a statement early on Friday morning letting fans know the news.
"Due to the infection and strain on my vocal cords, the doctor has ordered me to rest my voice and recover my health.
"I desperately wish I could dismiss the doctor but the added risk of flying means the decision would be highly irresponsible and may cause further damage."
Shortly after the news broke, TV and radio personality Bonang Matheba has stepped in to host the event this weekend.
The local celeb herself has been retweeting the news on her Twitter feed

Noah was excited to return home and host the show previously saying, "I'm a huge fan of African music and achievement, and it's going to be a massive pleasure celebrating them both at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2016 in my own home town of Johannesburg."
However, no one is more disappointed in the news than Trevor Noah himself.
"I push myself as hard as I can all the time because I appreciate every opportunity I am afforded in life. Unfortunately there comes a day like today when it all catches up and my body cannot do what my mind wishes.
"I'm so sorry if i've disappointed you but please know that I love performing more than anything in life, so having to cancel any show, breaks my heart. (sic)"
MTV Base has yet to comment, and announce a new host to fill in for Noah.
