SABC posted a clip in which founder of of the SATMAs, Dumisani Goba announced that they are introducing a category in honour of SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng for his efforts in promoting traditional music.

In an effort to show gratitude to Motsoeneng, Goba said, “As from today, we as SATMA, we took a decision to honour uBab' Motsoeneng with one of the categories.”

Goba said this during the awards announcement function in Durban on Sunday. He added that the catergory would be a permanent and not dependent on any changes relating to the SABC Boss.

According to TimesLive, Motsoeneng is thrilled at the “huge honour”, r, adding that he was unaware that the local music quota policy would spark as much excitement among local artists as it has.

“I am happy but what is more important for me is that I just came with the idea of 90% not knowing that people of South Africa will be so excited - especially the artists. And I am glad about this honour and SABC is not about an individual but I am just leading the team.”

Dumisani further revealed that other categories will be renamed after “heroes and heroines of Africa”.

The SATMAs are set to take place on October 1 in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal.
