We were there for the proud moment when Musa Sukwene received his gold certification at Universal Music SA.
|||Mthande, Musa and Robbie Malinga's duet is probably one of South Africa's most loved and most played love song.
The 2013 Idols winner's album Mr Serious, has been certified gold. Excited, Musa shared the news on his Instagram on Wednesday.
They invited the media and management to share in the celebrations when Musa was given his gold status certification on Friday, at the Universal Music SA offices in Rosebank.
Musa teamed up with legendary music producer Robbie Malinga to release his hit single, 'Mthande', which has been a a hit on the airwaves. His album sold more than 15 000 copies and both he and Robbie expect it to double by December.
Robbie even said, “Remind me, if Musa's album does not reach double gold status by December, I'll stop wearing shades (sunglasses),” as he laughed.
Musa also spoke about the great reception 'Mthande' has received and how the song's success makes choosing a follow up single a little bit more difficult.
He went on to explain that he wants to step out of the 'Idols' shadow as he would like to be recognised as an aritist, not just an Idol. When explaining his state of mind as a musician, he said, “Best well described, (I can say) with my first album I was a caterpillar. I'm a butterfly now, man!”
He added that he wants to go international.
Robbie warmly congratulated Musa on his achievement, and also took the time to reveal that he is working on an album.
Robbie explained that he believes in team work and that his upcoming album will be an album of collaborations album titled ‘Love Duets’. It will feature all his previous collaboration partners including Musa, Ntando, Kelly Khumalo, Zahara, Naima Kay as well as new artists who will be revealed in due time.
He also revealed that he just recorded a duet with current Idols winner Karabo Mogane, which will feature on both their albums.
Musa looks forward to making more music and assured us that he has found his sound and will not be moving away from making soulful Afro-Pop music.
