Jones has been jammimg to Nasty C's Juice Back, and says he sees so much more he could do in SA - after his show of course.
|||The Stand up and Laugh with Orlando Jones promises to be a hilarious affair. The comedian - who spend his Mandela day flying to South Africa - will be doing his one man show at Emperors Place from 22 -23 July.
Clearly in touch with South African music, the comedian says he has been listening to rapper Nasty C, saying he enjoys his music.
Jones is returning to the stage in SA after four years and said during a press conference that it has mainly been his shooting schedule that has delayed his return.
The versatile American comedian, film and television actor who recently visited the country to film ‘Madiba’- a six-part US miniseries based on the life and times of Nelson Mandela in which he stars in as Oliver Tambo - can't seem to get enough of South Africa.
He went on to explain how the show would be different because he has changed over the years.
“You don’t know how comedy truly looks until you have a four-year-old to answer to,” he joked.
He also says that doing an international show for him demands that he gets submerged in the country’s culture, so as to provide different material suited for it.
He juggles acting, comedy and being a dad, and admits that the latter is the most challenging, even though he would not trade it for anything.
The comedian sings praises of South Africa, saying he feels that the stories are much more raw here.
Speaking of the different experiences he will draw from for his show, Jones shared that he thinks South African comedians are brilliant.
He speaks of how he plans to buy a house in South Africa, and would like to get to a point where he could have a school built - among other things.
Jones will be joined by upcoming comedian Simmi Areff, whom he met at Comedy Central Roast Battle, shot at Parkers Comedy & Jive. He was so impressed with the standard of local SA comedians that he invited Simmi and Dillan Oliphant to join him on stage for his tour.
Areff also expressed how “cool” it is to share the stage with Jones and the kind of audience he draws.
Jones has a few other items on his itenarary, including meeting Dali Tambo and doing some #MandelaDay relatedprojects organised by Osman Osman, Managing Director of BluBlood.
