Rihanna and Jay-Z sued for no-show in Lagos, but the joke’s on Nigerian promoter
|||A Nigerian promoter is taking Rihanna to court after she allegedly skipped out on a scheduled performance in Lagos.
Chris Ubosi is suing the superstar, signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label, for over R2,3-million in damages. In a lawsuit filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court this week, Ubosi alleges that he spoke to Rihanna’s representatives and arranged a show that was supposed to have taken place in May 2013.
According to Ubosi’s alleged deal, Rihanna was to be paid around $425 000 for an hour-long set. Ubosi claims he has already paid three installments, totalling $160 000, but that he was then informed that Rihanna would no longer be available. Her representatives, allegedly, asked that the concert be postponed
Ubosi further claims that he agreed to the postponement on condition that Rihanna herself announce it on her social media networks. Just like the concert, this never happened. A fuming Ubosi wants his money back.
Roc Nation, however, are convinced that Ubosi was duped.
“Rihanna, Roc Nation nor anyone associated personally or professionally with either party was in contact with this person. Unfortunately this person was scammed. Rihanna nor Roc Nation collected any money for this event,” a rep for Roc Nation said.
