SA stars Pearl Thusi and Nicola Breytenbach join international heist film The Blue Mauritius.
|||Any actor would kill for the Hollywood stamp of approval, and that’s just what Pearl Thusi is doing ... literally.
The actress and model is set to play a gun-toting, motorbike-riding femme fatale called Makeda in an international heist film titled The Blue Mauritius.
Joining Thusi in this crime caper is another local beauty, supermodel-turned-actress Nicola Breytenbach.
The Blue Mauritius is about a group of international thieves who are hired by a mysterious entity to steal the most valuable stamps in the world. Thusi’s Makeda character works for a German art dealer who also wants the stamps, which apparently hold the secret to a treasure located somewhere in Mauritius.
The film will be executive produced by Mariah Carey’s ex Nick Cannon, and features acting talent from all over the world, including Brazil, France and Egypt.
Worryingly, the highest-profile actor linked to the project is John Rhys-Davies, a big screen veteran whose greatest hits (The Indiana Jones series of films, and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring) now drown in a sea of straight-to-DVD dross – which may just be where this movie ultimately ends up.
Lets see if The Blue Mauritius sinks without a trace, or if Thusi is the Pearl Hollywood has been searching for.
The film will be produced by New York based D Street Pictures and Cape Town’s Kaapland Films, a joint venture aimed at producing South African stories with an international cast.
